Communion

Communion is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of every month at Covenant. Everyone is welcome to participate in this important sacrament. During communion, the pastor gives an invitation, prayer, and instructions. Then, the pastor will come through the church and dismiss worshipers, row by row, to come forward to receive communion from a communion server. If you would prefer to be served in your seat for any reason, a communion server will come to you. You will be able to take a small cube of bread (gluten free) symbolizing the body of Christ and a small cup of grape juice symbolizing the blood of Christ, both graciously given by Christ on your behalf. No special attire or preparation is required for communion, though we encourage you to pray about your participation in communion, in whatever way fits you, before participating. What if I’m not Presbyterian, not Christian, or not sure? Communion is founded on grace. This means that the invitation comes from Jesus to you as a gracious gift. Anyone willing to accept Jesus’ invitation to the table is welcome. At Covenant, “the table” is not just grace, but a table of joy, of acceptance, and of welcome. No one fully “deserves” to come forward or fully understands the meaning of communion, so we do not prevent anyone from participation.
